Escondido California, founded in 1888, boasts 15 parks with mature shade-trees that highlight the vibrant community life of Escondido. History
Escondido was established during a land boom of the 1880s. Early settlers recognized that Escondido’s natural environment made it an ideal location for growing grapes and citrus fruits for farming.
Early on, residents came together through community fiestas and in-home musicals; as well as concerts performed from a wagon pulled across Grand Avenue by a band playing classical music concerts from there. Today, these traditions can still be experienced through Heritage Walk at Grape Day Park.
In the 1970s, Escondido started providing more cultural opportunities for its residents. The Escondido Regional Arts Council was created to bring visual art to North County; later the Municipal Gallery and various local galleries provided well-rounded art experiences for residents. Stone Brewing Co. and Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps were also among the top employers in Escondido.
Arts & Culture
Escondido is known for its world-renowned California Center for the Arts, Niki de Saint Phalle’s vibrant sculpture garden and historic downtown lined with restaurants, museums, art galleries and unique shops.
California Center for the Arts serves as North County’s cultural epicenter, offering concert hall, theater performances, contemporary art museum exhibitions, dance studios and community facilities – not to mention an extensive education program and free community events!
Locals of note include MySpace cofounder Tom Anderson, rock critic Lester Bangs, and Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps creator Emanuel Bronner. Downtown Escondido features the historic district along Grand Avenue from Centre City Parkway to Ivy Street with numerous coffee shops, restaurants and various retail and artisan businesses centered on Grand Avenue between Centre City Parkway and Ivy Street.
Education
Escondido boasts many exceptional schools. The Escondido Union School District oversees this public school system, which offers an impressive variety of educational programs. Test scores rank Escondido schools among California’s top half.
In Asia, the ratio of students to teachers is extremely low. This allows teachers to provide more personal attention to each student and creates an excellent learning environment.
Classical Academy High school stands out from other public schools nearby because of the high ratings it receives by Niche users. In one review, it was noted that the dedicated teachers and administration cared deeply about the school and were highly invested.
Sports & Recreation
The City offers a variety of classes and programs that enhance the quality of life, such as music, arts & craft, swimming, tennis and preschool. The City offers a variety of programs for youth, including ASES Before/After School Programs and day camps.
Kit Carson Park covers 285 acres, featuring three ponds, multiple sports fields and playgrounds – as well as Niki de Saint Phalle’s Queen Califia’s Magical Circle sculpture.
El Norte Parkway, located in north Escondido, is Escondido’s most recent neighborhood park. It’s perfect for dog-walking, hiking and picnicking. This new-to-market area is full of activities and ideal for anyone wanting a place to unwind with nature or just pass some time with family and friends.
Environment
Escondido, located near Dixon Lake and Southwestern flora such as chaparral brushlands and grasslands, boasts a Mediterranean climate – meaning warm summers with mild winters.
Escondido is a coastal city with mountains nearby. Its climate is influenced by its location on the coast and its proximity to mountains. Summers are warmer in Escondido than San Diego, but cooler in inland California.
In recent years, several major employers have established operations in Escondido. These include Stone Brewing Co. and Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps. Escondido’s downtown district offers numerous restaurants, coffee shops and retail shops for visitors to enjoy.
